their children for success in school and in life-- even if the
parents themselves never experienced much success in school. |

How old is Baby Steps?
Baby Steps was launched in August, 2003.
Who Funds the program?
For the first two years, the program was funded primarily by its
founder,
journalist William Raspberry. Since Raspberry’s
retirement, he has sought additional funding from foundations
and
individual contributors. The principal funder is the W.K.
Kellogg
Foundation. Other funders include Barksdale Reading Institute,
United
Way of Northeast Mississippi, and CREATE Foundation.
How do I contribute?
Checks may be made out to the CREATE
Foundation, with “Baby Steps” in the memo line, and sent to
CREATE
Foundation, P.O. Box1053, Tupelo, MS 38802.
Is the program tax-exempt?
Yes. Baby Steps has been granted 501(c)(3)
status by the Internal Revenue Service, but currently operates
as a
special project under the CREATE Foundation. All contributions
are
tax-favored.
